Well, reaching your first anniversary date is a whole achieval according to Koreans. Therefore, the first birthday of a baby has to be celebrated not like any other birthday but as something big. How big? Well, let's say it looks nearly as big as a wedding ceremony!

My friend's brother's son, Jinho, just turned one (or actually two in Korea coz they start counting as soon as you are conceived...) . As we were invited to his birthday party, I expected to go to their home. Yet I was a little surprised when arriving at the district Conference & Wedding Centre. The 1st floor was destined for engaged couples while the 2nd floor was fully dedicated to babies. It had a rich central buffet and 4 big rooms for 4 different baby parties. Each of the rooms was cheesely decorated with tons of pink and soft-blue balloons and had an altar with the birthday king/queen's portraits - in truly expensive framed pictures, albums, posters,... - all that done specially for that day. Korean babes are actually real fashion models!

The ceremony starts when everybody had a bite and a drink, but maybe more when the parents estimate the room is full enough. A professional entertainer opens the show with loud music - happy birthday to you, happy birth~~~~~ - and other funny things - or at least so it seemed. Then the baby is presented a basket full of objects, like a microphone, a ball, a pen, a paper bill, a toothbrush, a calculator, etc. With a big drrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr - just imagine a drum sound - he/she has to pick up one the items that will tell the baby's future.... And what will Jinho become later? A DENTIST!!!

Now all this might not give you a clue on why I would think that day Jinho might also have been one of the reachest babes in the world, does it? The thing is he gets many, many, many 10.000 W bills and, most important, GOLDEN RINGS. Real cute small baby 21 k golden rings! So he really ends up like a king on a throne with hands full of gold...

Pitty those pictures are taken in a studio on a later stage @_@Thessahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16101630805057388205noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31696522.post-56602924904811467682007-01-08T22:05:00.000+08:002007-01-09T22:35:50.954+08:00HAPPY NEW YEAR!I have been thinking of a special way to wish all of you a happy new year and this is the result:

Happy New Year!

Click on the picture and you will be redirected to Picasa where a video-file has been uploaded. While my boyfriend was back in Korea and a lot of my fellow students were travelling around, Elvira, Dani and me decided to have a spanish party of our own. Dani just graduated in something -hmmmm- and is now teaching spanish in Jinan because he loves chinese eyes... ;) We first went to a nice, little, dirty chinese restaurant were the food was excellent and tasted strangely better with some glasses of red wine that we had brought ourselves. It was around nine at night when we arrived at Dani's flat not far from the dodgy foodcave. The flat's quite okay although the toilet's like a dirty sauna (quote dani himself), it's got everything one needs to have a good life (washing machine, central heating, tv, dvd player incl.) . We prepared some "calimocho" - yeap, typical spanish drink, red wine wih coke (?!) - , the manchego cheese and serrano ham that elvi's parents sent to her -谢谢!gracias!- and of course the grapes... God, we couldn't forget those and even less after 12 when we nearly suffocated!!! They didn't have the nice little green ones we´re used to, so we had to do with the huge purple ones with extra thick skin! Elvira and Dani just decided to take there time eating them coz it didn´t really matter... I mean, in our minds we still had 7 hours ahead to celebrate the new year... Weird thing it was. Anyways, by the time the calimocho was consumed and a 1000 of sms had gone throughout the world, we once again took off and this time to the one and only Pyramid! If you ask me, it´s like one of the most worn-out places in town where most of the foreigners hang out of the fridays and maybe even the saturday evenings. And I really don´t know why coz the music is crap and always, always the same. The owner is from Iran and the DJ´s african. And it´s mostly a bunch of hungry young men bubbling & rubbing their thingies against whatever little victim they may find. But this time, we just turned out to have fun. It was nice for one time - and such a special one too - for all the leftover foreigners to be gathered together and party. So that's just what we deed. I had planed on going to bed just past midnight, instead I found myself in a Korean Canteen - 土大力 Tudali 투다 리 - having noodles, BBQ and topokki at 6 o'clock in the morning. Lucky we had 3 days off from school and a good address to get a fantastic cheap foot massage on the first day of this year...Thessahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16101630805057388205noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31696522.post-1163686530178688342006-11-16T19:59:00.000+08:002007-01-10T00:12:34.700+08:00Tussentoetsen
Haha!

Andere keer weer. 再见voor nou.Thessahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16101630805057388205noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31696522.post-1157272265848341492006-09-03T16:17:00.000+08:002006-09-03T16:31:05.860+08:00Terugkeer Jinan
Hallo, Ni Hao,

Thessahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16101630805057388205noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31696522.post-1153922938462145382006-07-26T22:03:00.000+08:002006-07-26T22:08:58.463+08:00Thessahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16101630805057388205noreply@blogger.com0
